World Water Day

Activity Sheet
Client: The Council of Canadians
Graphic Design: Allison Garnett - Field Trip
Illustrator: Joanna Sevilla

The theme for World Water Day 2023 focused on water activism and conservation for young audiences. My role involved creating visuals for a printable student activity sheet and an online teacher kit that were distributed to schools across Canada. The visuals needed to be engaging, educational, and versatile for print and digital use — and I especially enjoyed incorporating hand lettering to encourage kids to write their own letters to the Prime Minister.

NDP Candidate Paul Taylor

Illustrations
Client: Paul Taylor

I had the great pleasure of collaborating with Paul Taylor for his 2019 NDP Campaign.
The illustrations showcase Paul as a fixture of the community and reflects his love of the city. After this campaign, I continued to work with Paul and got to see how he shows up, uplifts, and advocates for his community.

Included are editorial work commissioned by Paul Taylor grounded in food security, food systems and advocacy for the unhoused.

Resource guides for the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants

Multilingual Resource Guides for print and web use
Client: OCASI - Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants
Graphic Design: Marcos Vilela
Illustrator: Joanna Sevilla

I was brought on this project to create custom illustrations for resource guides that were aimed to help migrant workers in Ontario in four different streams. The guides were translated into several languages and provided for print and web use. The main chapters covered legal rights, employment, health, work permits, housing, and everyday life.

I am very proud of this project, it was my first big illustration commission after graduating and my first taste of working with a team of people. I enjoyed the scope of the project, it was incredible to see my illustrations translated into different languages, in print and up on a website. It was also meaningful to create illustrations that I knew would help a community of people . It set me on the path of wanting to work with organizations and people whose aim are to help uplift vulnerable communities or systems. It made me think of my role as an illustrator, two values at the forefront of my practice is to communicate through representation and accessibility because shared narratives help people to feel part of the conversation.

***Though I no longer create this style of illustration I still wanted to include it in my body of work
